Silver Diamine Fluoride
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a liquid medication used to halt the progression of mild tooth decay (tiny cavity) and treat tooth sensitivity. It is a non-invasive, quick, cost-effective, painless alternative to traditional drilling and fillings, making it particularly useful for very young children, people with special needs, or those with dental anxiety. It does not fix the shape of a damaged tooth, and can stain the small spot of the cavity, but it is a useful option when indicated. Ask your dentist for more info!
How it Works:
| • |
Silver: Acts as an antimicrobial agent, killing the bacteria that cause tooth decay.
|
| • |
Fluoride: Promotes remineralization, strengthening the remaining tooth structure to prevent further deterioration. |
